Foster

Town in Providence County, northwest Rhode Island; population (1990) 4,300. It is located 26 km/16 mi west of Providence, along the Connecticut state line, on the Moosup and Ponagansett rivers. This rural town includes Jerimoth Hill (248 m/812 ft), the highest point in the state. Timber, granite, and gravel are important resources.
