Fox, Dixon Ryan

Fox, Dixon Ryan (1887–1945)

US college president and historian. He taught US social history at Columbia University and wrote The Decline of Aristocracy in the Politics of New York (1919). As president of the New York State Historical Society, he sponsored important scholarly publications.

He was born in Potsdam, New York and gained his PhD from Columbia University. He was president of Union College, Schenectady (1934–45).
