Fox Islands

Island group in the east Aleutian Islands, between the Bering Sea and the north Pacific Ocean, in southwest Alaska. Meausing 450 km/280 mi from east-west, they are flanked by the Alaska Peninsula and Samalga Pass, which separates them from the Islands of the Four Mountains. The largest islands in the group are Unimak, Umnak, and Unalaska, site of the largest settlements. Windy and fog-bound, they are the site of several military bases established during World War II. Fishing, canning, sheep ranching, and fox farming are the chief occupations of the Aleut population.
