Foy, Eddie

Foy, Eddie (1856–1928)

US actor and dancer. He danced in saloons, then added a blackface routine for his circuses and minstrel shows. Known for his facial expressions and pantomime, he achieved his greatest success with a vaudeville act featuring his seven children.

He was born in New York City. In 1903, he was appearing at Chicago's Iroquois Theater when fire broke out and, although he did his best to calm the audience, 602 died in the panic that ensued.
