Frühbeck de Burgos, Rafael (1933- )

Spanish conductor of German parentage. He studied at Madrid and Munich, and led the Madrid National Orchestra 1962-77. He was guest conductor of the Philharmonia Orchestra, London, and led the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra 1966-71. He made his US debut in 1968, and conducted the Washington Symphony Orchestra from 1980. He was principal conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra from 1991.
