Frühbeck de Burgos, Rafael (1933– )

Spanish conductor of German parentage. He studied at Madrid and Munich, and led the Madrid National Orchestra 1962–77. He was guest conductor of the Philharmonia Orchestra, London, and led the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra 1966–71. He made his US debut in 1968, and conducted the Washington Symphony Orchestra from 1980. He was principal conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra from 1991.
