Francken (or Franck)

Flemish family of painters, active in Antwerp. All members of the family painted biblical scenes. The best known are Frans Francken the Elder (1542–1616), pupil of Frans Floris and an Italianate painter of religious subjects, and Frans Francken the Younger (1581–1642), painter of interiors and genre scenes, who studied under his father.

The other Flemish painters named Francken belong to other families, the chief being Sebastien Francken (or Vrancx, 1578–1647), who painted battle scenes, and his son Jan Baptist Francken (1599–1653), a painter of interiors.
