Franco of Cologne (lived mid-13th century)

French music theorist. He wrote an Ars cantus mensurabilis which survives in seven manuscripts. It expounds the system of notation in his day, now called ‘Franconian’.

An anonymous monk of Bury St Edmunds, England, writing of Parisian music in the 13th century, refers to a ‘Franco primus’, apparently a Parisian, who also wrote on the same subject.
