Franconia

Duchy of medieval Germany, conquered and settled in the 7th century by the Franks. By the end of the 13th century it had been divided among numerous principalities.

Franconia

Resort town in Grafton County, north New Hampshire; population (1990) 800. Franconia is on the headwaters of the Gale River, 10 km/6 mi southeast of Littleton. Robert Frost Place, where the poet lived from 1915–20, is in the town.

Town in Fairfax County, northeast Virginia; population (1990) 19,900. It is largely residential, lying to the southwest of Alexandria.
