Frank, Tenney

Frank, Tenney (1876–1939)

US classicist, historian, and academic. He was the first US classicist to hold the Eastman Professorship at Oxford. Editor of the American Journal of Philology, and a University of California Sather professor, his publications include An Economic Survey of Ancient Rome.

Born near Clay Center, Kansas, he studied at the Universities of Kansas and Chicago, and taught at Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins. He published fifteen books, more than 150 articles, and many reviews.
