Frantz, Justus (1944– )

German pianist. He studied in Hamburg and with Wilhelm Kempff at Positano, and has given concerts from 1960, notably a Mozart concerto series with Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He made his US debut in 1975, with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under Bernstein, and did a worldwide tour in 1983 with pianist Christoph Eschenbach. He was a professor at the Hamburg Musikhochschule from 1985, and founded and directed the Schleswig-Holstein music festival 1986–94 (playing the Beethoven concertos in 1988). He toured throughout Europe with the Mozart concertos 1987–88.
