Frazee, John

Frazee, John (1790–1852)

US sculptor. Originally a stonecutter, his marble bust, John Wells (1824), is thought to be the first of its kind to have been sculpted in the USA. He was a founder of the National Academy of Design (1826).

He was born in Rahway, New Jersey. He was also the architect and superintendent of the New York Custom House (1834–41).
