Fredericks, Marshall Maynard (1908-1998)

US sculptor. Working in the symbolic-realistic tradition, he was best known for his public commissions such as those for the city of Detroit and for US Post Offices in River Rouge, Michigan, and Sandwich, Illinois.

He was born in Rock Island, Illinois. After studying at the Cleveland School of Art and with the Swedish sculptor Vilhelm Carl Emil Milles, he settled in Michigan, teaching at Cranbrook Academy, Bloomfield Hills (1933-42). His works are also to be found in museums at Cranbrook Academy and the University of Michigan.
