Opera by Franz Schmidt (libretto by B Warden and I M Welleminsky, after F Dahn), composed 1916–21 and first produced in Berlin, Germany, on 19 December 1922. In the story, Fredegundis murders the wife of King Chilpenich and becomes queen, but a poison she prepares for a rival is drunk by her husband and daughter.
