free jazz

Style of jazz characterized by its lack of harmonic structures or melodic patterns, driven instead by improvisation, that emerged in the USA during the late 1950s. Saxophonist Ornette Coleman coined the term with his album Free Jazz (1960). Other pioneers of the movement include saxophonist John Coltrane and pianist Cecil Taylor.

The second track is called Is Sheila Invited and sounds like Jim Diamond doing free form jazz with singer, drummer and guitarist Hector MacInnes acting like Noel Coward.
But somewhere after Solid Air's free form jazz stylings and his hugely successful tours with bass player Danny John Martyn Thompson, Martyn's life derailed amid a descent into booze and drugs addiction which resulted in divorce, twice.
