Freitas Branco, Luiz (1890–1955)

Portuguese composer. He studied at Lisbon, with Humperdinck in Berlin, and in Paris. He taught score-reading at the Lisbon Conservatory from 1916 and in 1930 took charge of the master-class in composition.

Works

oratorio, cantata; four symphonies (1924–52), two Portuguese suites for orchestra; violin concerto, ballad for piano and orchestra; songs with orchestra; string quartet; two violin and piano sonatas, cello and piano sonatas; piano pieces; songs; madrigals to words by Camoens.
