poodleBreed of gun dog, including standard (above 38 cm/15 in at shoulder), miniature (below 38 cm/15 in), and toy (below 28 cm/11 in) varieties. The dense curly coat, usually cut into an elaborate style, is often either black or white, although greys and browns are also bred. The poodle probably originated in Russia, was naturalized in Germany, where it was used for retrieving ducks and gained its name (from the German pudeln, ‘to splash’), and became a luxury dog in France. | He came up with the concept of a French poodle with a pink ribbon in its exquisitely groomed fur, wearing a sweater bearing the name of the Democratic presidential candidate. Gurney's award- winning adult comedy of the same name - which opens Friday at the Cottage Theatre - about a man whose love for his French poodle nearly ruins his 22- year marriage. At the far rear of the facing showcases, two video monitors randomly alternated between rhythmically manipulated frames of Duchamp's 1927 film Anemic Cinema--with its hypnotic spirals alluding to the swoon of vision as caught up in the lure of the medium itself--and blunt head-on shots of standard French poodles staring straight at the viewer as they undergo fastidious grooming. |
