Fresnillo

Largest town in the state of Zacatecas in central Mexico; population (1995) 176,900. Situated 2,200 m/7,218 ft above sea level, at the foot of the Cerro de Proano mountain, the town lies 53 km/33 mi northwest of the state capital, Zacatecas, on the Mexico City-Ciudad Juarez railway. It is an important centre for mining, cattle rearing, and agriculture. The chief minerals extracted are silver, lead, zinc, gold, copper, and tin, with most of the veins located in the Cerro de Proano.

When the Spaniards conquered the New World, this devotion found a new home in the Mexican city of Fresnillo and later spread as far north as New Mexico.
A recent addition to Hecla's land package in central Mexico was the acquisition of the Rio Grande project, located 50 miles north of the major Fresnillo silver mine in Zacatecas state, and approximately 30 miles from San Sebastian.
