Frey, Viola (1933– )

US ceramist. Her large assemblages of cast ceramic objects and massive figures explore issues relating to fantasy, kitsch, and stereotype. She earned widespread recognition for a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum (1984). A member of the faculty of the California College of Arts and Crafts since 1965, she holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Tulane University. She was born in Lodi, California.
