Fria

Centre of a bauxite-mining area in Guinea, about 100 km/62 mi north of Conakry, to which it is linked by rail. Ore is smelted at Kimba, using hydroelectric power from the Konkouré River. Further processing takes place at the Friguia bauxite-to-alumina complex. The area has the largest production of alumina in West Africa and contains one of the world's major reserves of bauxite ore.
