Friars Point

Town in Coahoma County, northwest Mississippi; population (1990) 1,300. It is situated in the Mississippi Delta, 19 km/12 mi north-northwest of Clarksdale, on the Mississippi River. Founded in the 1830s, it was for many years an important river port, shipping cotton, corn, and timber, with a ferry to Helena, Arkansas, which is 19 km/12 mi to the north-northeast.
