Friedrichshafen

City in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, on the northeast shore of Lake Constance, 115 km/71 mi southeast of Stuttgart; population (1994) 56,200. The town is a resort and conference centre, and has car and aerospace industries.

During World War I and in the interwar years, Friedrichshafen was the home of the Zeppelin airships and flying boats built by the Dornier aircraft company. The Zeppelin works were erected by public subscription in 1908. In 1924 the airship LZ126 flew from here to America, and the Graf Zeppelin was constructed here in 1928.
