Friskin, James (1886–1967)

Scottish pianist and composer. He studied at the Royal College of Music in London, and in 1914 went to New York and became a piano professor at the Institute of Musical Art. He married Rebecca Clarke in 1944. He was admired for the intellectual clarity of his interpretations, notably of Beethoven's Diabelli Variations.

Works

two motets on Scottish psalm tunes; suite for orchestra; piano quintet in C minor; phantasy string quartet; cello and piano sonata.
