Friuli

Historic region and former Lombard duchy at the head of the Adriatic Sea. Until 1919 it was divided between Italy (Udine and Portogruaro) and Austria (Gorizia, Gradisca, and Idrija); it became wholly Italian by the Treaty of St Germain-en-Laye (1919). A further treaty ceded a small portion to Yugoslavia in 1947. It is now divided between Slovenia and the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
