    0.01 sec.

Froberger, Johann Jacob (1616–1667)

German organist and composer. He was court organist at Vienna, Austria, and travelled to England, France, Germany, and the Low Countries performing keyboard music.

He studied under his father, who was a singer, and later Kapellmeister, in Stuttgart. He was appointed court organist in Vienna on the accession of the emperor Ferdinand III in 1637, and remained there until 1657, but spent 1637–41 in Italy as a pupil of Girolamo Frescobaldi. In 1662 he went to London, where he is said to have arrived destitute, having been twice robbed on the way. In later years he lived in the house of Sibylla, Dowager Duchess of Württemberg, at her retreat at Héricourt.

Works

harpsichord suites, many pieces for organ and harpsichord including toccatas, ricercari, and 30 suites.
