Froissart overture

Concert overture by Edward Elgar, Op. 19, composed in 1890 and first performed at the Worcester Festival, England, of that year on 9 September, conducted by Elgar. The title refers to the French historian Jean Froissart (1338-1404). Elgar prefaced the score with a quotation from Keats: ‘When chivalry lifted up her lance on high’.
