Fromm-Reichmann, Frieda (1889–1957)

German-born psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. A disciple of US psychoanalyst Harry Stack Sullivan, she pioneered psychotherapeutic methods with schizophrenic patients and contributed to the understanding of the psychic assets of the mentally ill. For some years (1926–42) she was married to the philosopher and psychologist Erich Fromm. She was born in Karlsruhe, Germany, and emigrated to the USA in 1935.
