Frost, Terry

    0.03 sec.

Frost, Terry (1915–2003)

English painter. His first abstract paintings date from 1949 and typically consist of segments of colour, as in Green, Blue and White Movement (1951, Tate Gallery, London). St Ives, Cornwall, has been his main centre since the 1950s, and he has had over 30 one-man shows in the UK, Europe, and the USA since 1952. He co-authored Terry Frost in 1994.

Frost was born in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. He was taken prisoner in Crete in 1941 and spent World War II in prisoner-of-war camps. After the war he attended evening classes at Birmingham Art College, and Camberwell School of Art, where he studied under Victor Pasmore. He has held teaching posts in both the UK and California, including an appointment as professor of painting at the University of Reading 1977–81, then emeritus.
