frostCondition of the weather that occurs when the air temperature is below freezing, 0°C/32°F. Water in the atmosphere is deposited as ice crystals on the ground or on exposed objects. As cold air is heavier than warm air and sinks to the ground, ground frost is more common than hoar (air) frost, which is formed by the condensation of water particles in the air.
