Frye, Walter

Frye, Walter (lived c. 1450–75)

English composer. His Ave Regina Caelorum Mater Regis was copied into 13 continental manuscripts and is found in three arrangements for keyboard in the Buxheimer Orgelbuch.

He is believed to have been a choral conductor at Ely Cathedral in the 1440s and later joined the London Guild of Parish Clerks. He wrote three Masses (Flos Regalis, Nobilis et Pulchra, and Summa Trinitati), chansons, and antiphons.
