Fort Huachuca

Military reservation in the Huachuca Mountains of Cochise County, southeast Arizona. It is located 80 km/50 mi southeast of Tucson. Established in 1877 to control the Apache, it is the oldest US cavalry post; since 1954 it has been an electronics and communications headquarters. Its museum honours the buffalo soldiers, black cavalrymen of the 1880s. Its satellite communities include Sierra Vista to the east and Huachuca City to the north.
