Fuenterrabia

Fishing town in the province of Guipúzcoa, northern Spain, on the Bay of Biscay and the French frontier; population (1995) 14,000. Once an important fortress, it has the remains of a castle from the 12th-16th centuries. Fuenterrabia is now a fashionable holiday resort.

The town defended itself successfully against the French general Louis, Prince of Condée, in 1638, during the Thirty Years War.
