Fuleihan, Anis (1900–1970)

Cyprus-born US pianist and composer. He was educated at the English School in Cyprus and studied music in the USA, where he settled in 1915. He toured much in the USA and the East, and lived in Cairo for two years. After his return to America in 1928 he conducted and composed.

Works

opera Vasco (1958); several ballets; symphonies, suite Mediterranean and Preface to a Child's Story-Book for orchestra, suite for chamber orchestra; three piano concertos (1936, 1937, 1963), cello concerto, two violin concertos, two symphonies (1936, 1962), concerto for Theremin, Fantasy for viola and orchestra; five string quartets (1940–65), clarinet quintet, horn quintet; sonatas for violin, viola, and cello; 11 piano sonatas.
