drive bay

In computing, slot in a computer designed to hold a disk drive such as a hard drive, floppy drive, or CD-ROM drive. Like most computer components, disk drives have decreased in size. Older drives were 51/4 inches in size, but most newer drives are 31/2 inches. Kits to fit a 31/2 inch drive into a 51/4 inch bay are readily available. Other computer components such as speakers, USB ports, and multimedia card readers can also be fitted into drive bays.
