Evidence of a chytrid fungus infection involved in the decline of the common midwife toad (Alytes obstetricans) in protected areas of central Spain.
Theory: chytrid fungus infection and in the case of the boreal toad, bacterial infection as well (uncertain).
The cause is a fungus infection called athlete's foot or nail fungus, usually from coming in contact with other infected people in public showers or pools.
