Furlanetto, Ferrucio (1949– )

Italian bass. He made his debut as Sparafucile at Vicenza in 1974, sang Colline in La Bohème at Trieste the same year, and has appeared widely in Italy in operas by Verdi, including Banquo at La Scala, Milan. He made his US debut as Zaccaria at New Orleans in 1978, and appeared in San Francisco in 1979 as Alvise. He sang Melibeo in Haydn's La fedeltà premiata at Glyndebourne in 1980, and Mozart's Figaro at the 1986 Salzburg Festival. He is best known as Leporello in Don Giovanni, which he sung at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1988, at the New York Metropolitan Opera House in 1990, and at Salzburg under Karajan (a performance that was also filmed).
