Furnas County

County in south-central Nebraska, on the Kansas state line; area 1,867 sq km/721 sq mi; population (1990) 5,600. Its administrative headquarters is Beaver City. It is a grain and livestock producing area on the south edge of the High Plains. The county was the political base of Senator George W Norris (1861–1944), who began his career here in the 1880s.
