Furth, Harold P(aul) (1930- )

Austrian-born US physicist. A world leader in the fields of plasma physics and controlled thermonuclear fusion, he became widely known for his refutation of the claim that fusion can be achieved at room temperature in a glass of water. Born in Vienna, Austria, he emigrated to the USA in 1941. He performed research in nuclear radiation at the University of California, Berkeley (1955-67) before moving to Princeton University in 1967.
