Fusion government

South African coalition government formed 1933 which saw the merger of J B M Hertzog's Nationalist Party and J C Smuts's South African Party the following year. The United South African National Party, as it became, attempted to cultivate a broader white unity in South Africa in the face of growing political and economic uncertainty. It was re-elected 1938.
