Gable, Christopher

Gable, Christopher (1940– )

English dancer. He created roles in Kenneth Macmillan's Images of Love (1964) and Frederick Ashton's The Two Pigeons (1961), and appeared in such films as Ken Russell's The Boy Friend (1972). An innovative director of the Manchester-based Northern Ballet Theatre from 1986, his Swan Lake (1992), was set during an 1870s Russian coup. In 1987 he choreographed A Simple Man, based on the life of the artist L S Lowry, for television.

Gable was born in London, and studied at the Royal Ballet School. He was soon dancing solo roles as a principal and partner to Canadian ballerina Lynn Seymour, but retired as a dancer in 1967.
