Gabor, Zsa Zsa

    0.01 sec.

Gabor, Zsa Zsa (1917– )

Hungarian-American actor. Known for her blond beauty and glamour, as well as her comic quips about men, marriage, and materialism, she appeared in a number of Hollywood films from the 1950s, including a starring role in John Huston's Moulin Rouge in 1952. Mostly she played supporting roles, however, and maintained her celebrity status as a socialite.

She followed her actor sister Eva Gabor to the USA in 1941. Her film debut was in the musical comedy Lovely to Look At (1952). After playing a number of supporting roles, she began to appear in cameo roles as herself from the 1960s.

Gabor was born in Budapest, Hungary. She made her stage debut in Austrian tenor Richard Tauber's operetta Der singende Traum/The Singing Dream in 1936. The following year, she married her first of nine husbands, who included hotel heir Conrad Hilton (1942–47) and actor George Sanders (1949–54). Other films include the circus musicals Lili (1953) and 3 Ring Circus (1954), and the crime dramas Death of a Scoundrel (1956) and The Man Who Wouldn't Talk (1958). Later cameo roles include The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991), which spoofed her infamous conviction of slapping a police officer.
