Galán, Luis Carlos (died 1990)

Colombian liberal politician and prospective presidential candidate in the 1990 elections. He was vehemently outspoken about the drug cartels and mafia, and supported the government campaign, initiated in 1983, against the drug trade. The campaign, however, turned into a bloody war. Galán was assassinated.

The death of Galán lead the government to implement new extradition laws and the confiscation of many mafia-owned properties.
