Galamian, Ivan (Alexander) (1903-1981)

Iranian-born US violinist. He studied in Moscow and Paris and made his debut in Paris, in 1924. He taught in Paris until 1939, then moved to New York and from 1946 taught at Juilliard and the Curtis Institute, Philadelphia. Among his most distinguished pupils were Kyung-Wha Chung, Miriam Fried, Jaime Laredo, Pinchas Zukerman, and Itzhak Perlman. He wrote on violin technique.
