Galanos, Jimmy (James) (1924– )

US fashion designer. He worked for Paris and New York City designers before opening Galanos Originals in Los Angeles, California, in 1951. Considered by many to be the USA's greatest designer, he specialized in cocktail and evening dresses, celebrated both for their exquisite construction and their high prices. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
