Gale, Robert

Gale, Robert (Peter) (1945– )

US physician. He joined the academic staff of the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1972, establishing a major bone marrow transplant centre. In 1986 he attained international renown when he travelled to Chernobyl, Ukraine, then in the Soviet Union, to treat victims of a nuclear power plant accident. A prolific writer, he coauthored Final Warning: The Legacy of Chernobyl (1988). He was born in New York City.
