Gale force winds, scorching heat, snags and speedboats are just some of the elements aged care nurse manager Ruth Roberts battled in her quest to kayak the river Murray and raise funds for the Abbeyfield Hostel in Williamstown in South Australia. Prior to construction of the building, Williams' engineers performed several tests, including wind tunnel tests determining the 50-story condominium building would not bow under even the most vicious gale force winds striking off the East River. The elevated site commands ocean views and though hot in summer, the winter climate is often harsh, with gale force winds. |
