Gallipolis

Town and administrative headquarters of Gallia County, south Ohio; population (2000) 4,200. It is situated on the Ohio River and the West Virginia state border, 93 km/58 mi southwest of Marietta. Its manufactures include electric motors, marine engines, powdered metals, and furniture. One of the earliest settlements in the state, the town was founded by French colonists in 1790.
