gallium arsenide

Compound of gallium and arsenic, formula GaAs, used in lasers, photocells, and microwave generators. Its semiconducting properties make it a possible rival to silicon for use in microprocessors. Chips made from gallium arsenide require less electric power and process data faster than those made from silicon.
