Gananoque

Town in Leeds and Grenville United Counties, southeast Ontario, Canada; population (1991) 5,200. It is situated at the confluence of the Gananoque and St Lawrence rivers, 29 km/18 mi east-northeast of Kingston. Since the early 19th century its economy has depended on copper and steel works. Today auto parts manufacturing and dairying are also important. Gananoque serves as a gateway to the nearby Thousand Islands.
