Garcia, José Mauricio Nunes (1767–1830)

Brazilian composer. He directed music at Rio de Janeiro Cathedral from 1798 and composed about 20 Masses, the later ones being influenced by Italian opera. His brilliant Requiem of 1816 established his reputation throughout South America.
