Garn, Jake (1932- )

Former US astronaut, the first US senator in space. He flew as a payload specialist bon the space shuttle Discovery in April 1985. Two communications satellites were deployed during the seven-day mission. When Garn returned to the senate floor, he received a standing ovation and an embrace from Senator John Glenn, the former astronaut.
